Using AI images of persons to promote a business.

fatwa-tt June 25, 2026

Question:

If a person has an online business could they use AI that looks like a person to promote it. The person is a female and don’t want to show her self online nor use her real voice

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

From the outset, we would like to mention that it is not permissible for a Muslim woman to use AI generated images of herself to promote her business. In addition, the safest position is to refrain from using other forms of AI generated animate images (i.e. images of humans or animals that include facial features) to promote a business.

Many business owners think that if they do not incorporate modern trends like music and animate images in their advertising and sales, their products will not sell or reach the target market.

It should be borne in mind that Allah ﷻ is responsible for each person’s sustenance and He can make a person’s business grow in ways that one would least expect. So, a believer should try their utmost best to always remain within the ambit of Islamic law, even when doing business.

The blessings that one will receive for staying within the ambit of Islamic law outweighs the money that one may make while adopting unlawful (Haram) and disliked (Makrooh) means of advertising and trading.

In conclusion, try to be creative in adopting marketing strategies that are not doubtful or unlawful. Remember that Allah ﷻ is in full control of your sustenance and you will only make what is written for you.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
