How should the Qurbani meat be distributed?

fatwa-tt July 30, 2019

Question:

How should the meat of slaughter on eid ul adha be distributed? Should all meat be given to poor, needy people, or can the person keeps maximum met at home for personal use?

Please provide detailed answer.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Ideally, the meat of Qurbani (sacrifice) should be divided into three portions, one portion for oneself, the other for relatives and friends, and the third for the poor and needy. However, one may keep all the meat for himself or even distribute all the meat to whomever he wishes.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best

Mufti Arshad Ali.
