Qadha (make up) of Witr Salaah.

fatwa-tt January 2, 2024

Question:

One morning at Fajr time, after the fajr azan i remembered that i did not perform the witr salaah. I decided to qaza the witr, then perform my 2 sunnah fajr before joining the fard of fajr. I ended up missing one rakaat of thr Fajr pray due to my decision to qaza the witr prayer. I am allowed to qaza the witr pray as in this case?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Whether a Salaah is missed deliberately, forgetfully or with a valid reason e.g. severe illness, it has to be performed later. Performing it after the time of that particular Salaah has expired is called Qadhaa. The Qadhaa should be performed as soon as possible. To delay a Qadhaa unnecessarily is also incorrect.

If one missed any Fard Salah from the time one became baligh (mature or puberty), one must make Qadhaa (make up) for all missed Salaahs. The Fard Salaahs are; 2 fard of Fajr, 4 of Zuhr, 4 of Asr, 3 of Maghrib, 4 of Isha. Also the 3 Witr after Isha if missed would also have to be made up.

Apart from the 2 rakaats Sunnah of Fajr, no other Salaah should be performed until after the Fajr Salaah. After the Fard of Fajr, performing Qadhaa Salaah will be permissible (except at the time of sunrise). In future, the Qahdaa should be performed after the Fard of Fajr Salaah.

Importance of performing QADHAA (make up for missed) Salaah.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best.
