Question:
Is the vomit of a new born child impure? Does it have to be washed off clothing, bedding etc?
Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Vomit, including a baby’s vomit (urine also, even if only drinks milk) is impure, if it is more than a mouthful. A mouthful will be regarded such an amount that one cannot hold back the vomit in the mouth.
Therefore if the baby’s vomit is a mouthful or more, and covers an area more than a dirham (3cm or more in diameter) it will be Najis (impure), and must be removed from one’s body or clothing before performing Salaah. If the vomit is less than 3cm, it should still be removed as precaution before performing Salaah.
