Wuhdu or wiping over a bandage.

fatwa-tt October 15, 2020

Question:

 Assalaamu Alaikum.
I have a plaster over a wound on my face due to a cut & stitches. The doctor advised to prevent infection I need to keep the plaster & avoid getting the area wet for one week.
I have been doing wudhu with masah over the plaster for each Salaah.
Can you advise if I need to make fresh wudhu & masah over the plaster for each Salaah during the one week period or would the wudhu suffice for more than one Salaah as long as I do not break the wudhu.
Jaza kallah.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

If there is a plaster on cuts or wounds on the body and by removing the plaster to perform wudhu, harm will be caused then one should wash over the plaster or bandage. If by wetting the plaster the injury will worsen, it will be permissible in this case to simply make Masaah (wiping a wet hand over the plaster.)

Since in your case, a reliable doctor advised not to get the plaster wet, just wiping the plaster with a slightly wet hand will suffice. You will not need to redo a new Wudhu or Masah for each Salaah, as long as your previous Wudhu remains intact.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
