Question:
Assalamu alaykum I have recently moved to the city of Edinburgh in UK and have realized there are many different times for when “sehri begins” The time at the kcal masjid is after the time in my ipad salah time calculation. Which times do I follow?
Secondly is the manzil sunnah to read? As it was compiled after Nabi sallalahu Alayhi wasallam?
Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
1) There is no specific time for the beginning of Sehri. However to partake in Sehri and to delay it until before the Subah Sadiq (break of dawn) is Mustahab (preferable)1.
We assume the difference in your local Masjid is on the ending time of Sehri. All the scholars are unanimous that Sehri ends upon the commencing of Subah Saadiq (break of dawn) when the horizontal light in the sky appears. Fajr time commences at Subah Saadiq. However some Ulama (scholars) differ on this exact timing. The general view of the Ulama is when the sun is 18 degrees below the horizon, Fajr time sets in.
We advise you contact the Darul Ifta Birminghamfor clarification on the exact timings. http://daruliftabirmingham.co.uk/
2) The reading of the Manzil (by Hazrat Maulana Mohammad Zakariyya Kandhalawi) has been proven to be extremely effective for protection against the evil influence of Jinn, Sihr (witchcraft, sorcery, etc.), and other evils.
The Manzil includes only Verses of the Qur’an.
Allah Ta’ala says in the Qur’an:
وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ مَا هُوَ شِفَاءٌ وَّرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ. سورة بني إسرائيل: ٨٢
And We (Allah) have sent down in the Qur’an such things that have healing and mercy for the believers.
And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
