Salaah after undergoing a hysterectomy.

fatwa-tt November 30, 2020

Question

As salaamu alaikum.

I have to undergo a surgery soon bcz I have cancer in my uterus. I have to do a hysterectomy which will cause bleeding and also I won’t be able to move or so for a while. Would I have to qadha those salaah missed for the day/weeks?

Jazaakallaah khair

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

WaAlaykumus Salaam.

The bleeding due to the hysterectomy will be regarded as Istihaadha (irregular bleeding) and one will still have to perform Salaah.

If the bleeding (Istihadha) is continuous to such an extent that one does not have sufficient time to complete Salaah after Wudhu, then one will qualify as a Ma’zoor (excused person).

A Ma’zoor shall make Wudu for every Fardh Salah. The Wudhu of a Ma’zoor remains valid for the duration of the Salah time. During this time she can read Nafl and Quran. All the factors which break Wudhu besides the factor responsible for making one Ma’zoor (in this case, the irregular bleeding), will nullify the Wudhu of a Ma’zoor.

If moving is difficult, one can perform the salaah in a sitting position, or even on a bed, with the head elevated, facing qibla

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
