Question:
Assalaamualaikum
In the case of a female who has sensitive skin and shaving the pubic region causes blisters and pain, is it permissible to get a Brazilian wax?
What about if a sister does this as a job? Is it permissible?
Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The awrah of a Muslim woman in front of a non Muslim woman is like that of a non-Mahram man, i.e. the whole body must be covered besides the hands, face and the feet. It is permissible for a Muslim female to look at another Muslim female’s body, except the area from the navel to the knees.
Therefore, it is not permissible to uncover the pubic region to another woman for the purpose of waxing. Uncovering this area is only permissible in necessity, e.g. for medical procedures. Even though a person may have sensitive skin, waxing would not be regarded as a necessity to permit exposing this area. One may consider the following possible solutions:
– Try self-waxing or ask one’s husband do so.
– Explore the various alternatives on the market, some of which are particularly formulated for sensitive skin. E.g. using an epilator or hair removing cream.
A job entailing waxing the pubic area will not be permissible.
And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best.
