Is sending jummah/ramadan/eid mubarak messages a Bidah or Haram?

Question:

Assalamualykum.
Is sending jummah/ramadan/eid mubarak messages a bida/haram?
Will one be sinful for sending these messages ?
Jazakallah

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

The days of Eid and Friday are blessed and Mubarak days. Virtues of these days are mentioned in many Ahadith. One may express their happiness and joy on such days, due to the additional goodness Allah Ta’ala has attached to these days.

On the day of Eid one should extend greetings and good wishes. It is advisable to greet with the following words:

تقبل الله منا ومنكم

Transliteration: Taqabbalallahu minna wa minkum

Translation: May Allah accept from us and you.

While it is best one uses the words of this Dua, statements such as ‘Eid Mubarak’ relays a similar meaning of the above Dua and will be permissible to use or message, without any dislike. Similarly, it will be permissible to use Jumu’ah Mubarak[1].

One should however not consider using Jumu’ah/Eid Mubarak as a necessary or an established Sunnah of Friday or Eid, as it will then be regarded as a bid’ah. Shaking hands (musaafahah) and embracing (mu’aanaqah) on the day of Eid or Jumu’ah must also not be regarded as a compulsory practice.

ثُمَّ قَالَ: وَالْمُتَعَامَلُ فِي الْبِلَادِ الشَّامِيَّةِ وَالْمِصْرِيَّةِ عِيدٌ مُبَارَكٌ عَلَيْك وَنَحْوُهُ وَقَالَ يُمْكِنُ أَنْ يَلْحَقَ بِذَلِكَ فِي الْمَشْرُوعِيَّةِ وَالِاسْتِحْبَابِ لِمَا بَيْنَهُمَا مِنْ التَّلَازُمِ فَإِنَّ مَنْ قُبِلَتْ طَاعَتُهُ فِي زَمَانٍ كَانَ ذَلِكَ الزَّمَانُ عَلَيْهِ مُبَارَكًا عَلَى أَنَّهُ قَدْ وَرَدَ الدُّعَاءُ بِالْبَرَكَةِ فِي أُمُورٍ شَتَّى فَيُؤْخَذُ مِنْهُ اسْتِحْبَابُ الدُّعَاءِ بِهَا هُنَا أَيْضًا. اهـ.
