Is it permissible to tell a person who is going to visit the grave of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) to convey ones Salaam?

fatwa-tt September 29, 2015

Question:

Is it permissible to tell a third person, who’s going to visit the blessed grave of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam), to convey ones Salaam to our beloved Master (sallallahu alayhi wasallam)? Some people say it should be avoided as it was not the practise of the Sahabah or our Salaf, jazak’Allah khayran.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is permissible to tell someone who is going to visit the grave of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) to convey ones Salaam. Ulama have stated that the person visiting the blessed grave of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) should convey the Salaam of those who asked him, and also ask for their Shafa’ah (intercession on the Day of Judgement). [1]

It is narrated that Umar bin Abdul Aziz (Rahimahullah), the caliph and great grandson of Umar (Radhiallahu Anhu) used to send letters to Madinah, asking to convey his Salaam to Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam).[2]
