I am in a big dilemma here (both me and my husband. 5 months ago i gave birth to my beautiful healthy child alhamdulelah. After giving birth and after a few tests done by my cardiologist, i learned that i have postnatal cardiomyopathy. I had two major problems (low ejection fraction ( heart function), and tachycardia) other problems were regurgitation and leaking in the valves (but this wasn’t much of a concern according to my doctor). I was advised by both my OBGYN and Cardiologist to not conceive anymore as it would be dangerous to my health and the baby’s as well.
Now, 3 days ago i found out i was pregnant (4weeks pregnant) i visited my OBGYN and she confirmed my pregnancy and asked me what do i want to do. She told me if you want to continue the pregnancy then, we just have tackle whatever comes in your way and basically see our luck. She said i am still at risk for heart failure and in rare cases, death. My heart function is not back to normal and will only get worse during pregnancy. I don’t know what i’m supposed to do, what’s the right thing to do, I don’t want to anger Allah. Please help. Jazakullah khairan
Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
We make dua Allah grant you courage in your present situation and grant you Shifa. Ameen.
As a believer, you should have the belief and faith that every condition is from Allah and no pain is in vain. It is through that; Allah forgives sins and elevates a person’s status. Be courageous and patient.
You have been through challenging situations in giving birth and Alhamdulillah you overcame all of them. In view of all that, you should have taken precaution and went on to some form of contraception.
In principle, one may abort for a genuine medical reason before 120 days of pregnancy.
Our advice is you consult with your gynecologist and if he/she is certain that this pregnancy will seriously impact on your health, or endanger your life, then you may abort if you are within 120 days of pregnancy[1]. As a matter of precaution, we advise you seek another medical opinion on your issue.
If you are beyond 120 days of pregnancy, then you cannot abort merely based on a possibility. Only if it is certain that your life will be in serious danger if the pregnancy is not aborted, then one may abort. Such advice must be given by a medical expert.
Also make lots of Dua and ask Allah Ta’ala to guide you on whatever is best for you.
And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
