Question:
As Salaamu Wa Alaikum . I’m a pardah observing woman but i have step uncles. On both sides of my father’s prents ie, my grandfather and grandmother were both married to different people before they met each other.
Do i have to wear both hijaab and pardah for all of them?
Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
If either of the biological parents (father or mother) of your step uncles are the same as your father’s, then such step uncles will be regarded as Mahram. It would not be necessary to observe Hijaab in front of them. However one must still dress adopt proper and modest dressing, especially if there is a fear of temptation (fitna).
In a scenario where neither of the parents of the step uncles are the biological parents of your father, then the step uncle is not considered as Mahram, therefore it would be necessary to observe Shari’ Hijab (Purdah) infront of them.
