Question:
Is is a good practice/allowed to teach your children to give salaams at night when we see the moon?
Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Dua at the time of sighting the moon:
Ibn Umar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when he sighted the crescent of a new moon, used to say,
Allahumma ahlilhu `alainā bil-amni wal-iman, was-salamati wal-Islam, wa attwfiqi lima tuhibbu wa tardhaa, rabbunaa wa rabbuk Allah
“O Allah, bring it over us with safety and faith, security and Islam, guidance to what You love and is pleasing to You. Our Lord and your Lord is Allah.” (Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān)
This Dua should be taught to children and recited when seeing the moon.
And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best.
