Believing the Aamil and the Jinn..

fatwa-tt November 3, 2015

Question:
What is the ruling if an aamil says that so and so person is doing magic on you etc. The Aamil claims that he makes the Jinn speak and say how he has come into the person and who sent him. Is the information given by the trapped Jinn correct and can such information be relied upon? He identifies that person, sometimes it may be a relative or friend. We believe him and take his word, and therefore break ties and relationship with that person? Is this permissible?
This is now becoming very common in our communities.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Caution is necessary and one must verify before accepting information;

Allah says in The Quran:

يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنْ جَاءَكُمْ فَاسِقٌ بِنَبَإٍ فَتَبَيَّنُوا أَنْ تُصِيبُوا قَوْمًا بِجَهَالَةٍ فَتُصْبِحُوا عَلَى مَا فَعَلْتُمْ نَادِمِينَ

Translation: O you who believe! If a Faasiq (liar – evil person) comes to you with any news, verify it, lest you should harm people in ignorance, and afterwards you become regretful for what you have done” (Al- Hujaraat: 49-6)

It is clear from the above verse that it is not permissible to believe someone without verifying the information.

Furthermore, assuming the voice from the affected person is that of the Jinn, how is it possible to verify the Jinn’s trustworthiness? In fact, the Jinn is at least a Faasiq (evil person) if not a Kaafir as it has violated Shari’ah by coming into a person. The information of such a Faasiq is clearly rejected and cannot be accepted. If the Jinn can commit such a great violation, speaking lies and concocting stories and making false accusations are relatively minor violations for the Jinn. If you accept the information of the Jinn, that is an insult to one’s intelligence. In fact, it is a sin to even accept such information[1].

Unfortunately many so called “Aamils” nowadays are nothing but money thirsty perpetrators who claim to have such knowledge and cure sicknesses. They cause corruption in society in order to make a few dollars from those who faith is weak. A lot of innocent Muslims fall into their trap. Great caution must be practised in this aspect. On most occasions, there is nothing spiritually wrong with the afflicted person. He may be ill, which is from Allah, and can happen to any man, but an Aamil would say that somebody has done some magic on him, thus the cause of the illness being magic or effects of Jinn.

It is a well known fact that such agents of the Shayateen, via Jinns and magic strive to separate or stir up hatred and enmity between people. Also Jinns lie a lot, and can even mislead the Aamil.

Allah has warned us to abstain from suspicion;

يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اجْتَنِبُوا كَثِيرًا مِنَ الظَّنِّ إِنَّ بَعْضَ الظَّنِّ إِثْمٌ

Translation: “Oh you who believe! Avoid much suspicion (zann), indeed some suspicions are sins.” (Al-Hujuraat: 12)

Rasulullah Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam said:

إِيَّاكُمْ وَالظَّنَّ فَإِنَّ الظَّنَّ أَكْذَبُ الْحَدِيثِ

Translation: “Avoid suspicion, for suspicion is the gravest lie…”

If one accepts the information from the Jinn, it will facilitate suspicion which leads to a host of other sins, enmity, serving family ties, backbiting etc. In reality, accepting such information compounds the problem and brings more pain to the affected person. It is Wajib to reject such information and defy the Shaytaan. There is always Barakah in practicing on Shari’ah and the guidelines of Shari’ah in everything.

In brief, according to Shariah the information from the Jinn is unreliable. If one relies on such information, he will be guilty of negligence, sinful and also a victim of Shaytaan by spreading evil.

One may safeguard himself by doing the following,

1.Recite the Manzil daily.

  1. Recite Quraan daily, surah Yaseen, Ayaat ul Kursi, Surah Baqarah regularly.
  2. Staying in the state of Wudhu.
  3. Observing Salaah in congregation and on time.
  4. Not to listen to songs or music, and generally abstaining from all sins.
  5. Seeking refuge when entering the toilet. The Prophet ﷺ used to say the following invocation upon entering the toilet: “Aiiahumma inni a’udu bika minai- khubuthi wal-khbaith (O Allah! I seek refuge in you from the male female Satans„)”1
  6. To make Wudhu and recite Ayatul Kursiy before going to bed,
  7. To say (bismillah) upon doing any task
  8. To be in the company of pious people
  9. To observe morning and evening Duas (supplications).

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
