Menstruation periods will be considered from the moment the blood was sighted.

fatwa-tt July 11, 2018

Question:

I made wudu, offered Fajr salah and completed the necessary acts of Umrah i.e tawaaf around the Ka’ ba, sa ‘ee of Safa and Marwa and cut an inch of my hair.

However, after performing all of these acts when I used the bathroom, I realised that my periods had already started. I am not really sure as to whether it had started while performing the tawaaf or after performing the tawaaf.
Is there any expiation required? Please reply.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

According to the above query, the periods will commence from the moment the blood was sighted. No expiation will be necessary.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best

Mufti Arshad Ali
