I am married to a christian woman. We are expecting a son in December and I was talking to her about circumcising the boy insha Allah. But she can&#8217;t bear to understand my point. I am unsure of my next move, can I have my son grow up without being circumcised?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Answer:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>As-sal\u0101mu \u2018alaykum wa-rahmatull\u0101hi wa-barak\u0101tuh.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Circumcision is the Sunnah of Hadhrat Ibrahim (Alayhi Asalaam) as well as the Sunnah of all The Messengers (Alayhimus Asalaam).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah&#8217;s Messenger (\ufdfa) said, &#8220;Five practices are characteristics of the Fitra (i.e. the tradition of Prophets(: circumcision, shaving the pubic region, clipping the nails and cutting the moustaches short.&#8221; al-Bukhari 5889<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The ruling of circumcision.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Imam Malik (Rahimahullah), Imam Shafa\u2018i(Rahimahullah), Imam Ahmad (Rahimahullah), are of the opinion that circumcision is Wajib (obligatory)<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\"><sup><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/sup><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">According to Imam Abu Hanifa (Rahimahullah), circumcision in Sunnah for men.<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\"><sup><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Circumcision is a distinctive symbol of Islam. It cannot be condoned without a valid reason.<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"#_ftn3\" name=\"_ftnref3\"><sup><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Apart from circumcision being a Sunnah of all the Prorhets, present day doctors also state that there are great health advantages in circumcision. Hereunder are some advantages of circumcision;<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"#_ftn4\" name=\"_ftnref4\">[4]<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A decreased risk of urinary tract infections.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A reduced risk of some transmitted diseases in men.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Protection against penile cancer and a reduced risk of cervical cancer in female partners.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Prevention of balanitis (inflammation of the glans) and balanoposthitis (inflammation of the glans and foreskin).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Prevention of phimosis (the inability to retract the foreskin) and paraphimosis (the inability to return the foreskin to its original location).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If performed at an early age, the tendency to urinate in bed is checked.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We suggest you lovingly draw your wife\u2019s attention to the beautiful teachings of Islam. If it is difficult to perform the circumcision for the new-born, it may be delayed until a suitable time.
