{"id":594,"date":"2015-03-04T02:02:34","date_gmt":"2015-03-04T02:02:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fatwa-tt.com\/?p=594"},"modified":"2017-11-08T13:47:54","modified_gmt":"2017-11-08T17:47:54","slug":"is-qiyaam-necessary-for-one-whom-is-unable-to-perform-sajdah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fatwa-tt.com\/index.php\/is-qiyaam-necessary-for-one-whom-is-unable-to-perform-sajdah\/","title":{"rendered":"Is Qiyaam Necessary for one whom is unable to Perform Sajdah?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Question:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I&#8217;d like to know regarding the ruling of performing salaah sitting, due to ailing circumstances,does one have to sit from beginning until the end,even if one is able to stand for the standing posture?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Answer:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>As-sal\u0101mu \u2018alaykum wa-rahmatull\u0101hi wa-barak\u0101tuh.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In circumstances where one is unable to perform Ruku\u2019 and Sujood due to illness or severe pain, it will be permissible to perform Salah in a sitting posture or on a chair.<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Fuqahaa (Jurists) have mentioned that if someone is unable to perform sujood (prostration) during Salah, then the following rulings apply:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Qiyaam (standing posture) is not obligatory on the person.<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a> It is preferable for such a person to sit and pray.<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"#_ftn3\" name=\"_ftnref3\">[3]<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The person will perform the ruku\u2019 (bowing down) and sajda (prostration) by gesture (i.e. by bending of the head) in such a way that one lowers the head more for sajda than the lowering for ruku\u2019.<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"#_ftn4\" name=\"_ftnref4\">[4]<\/a> Sujood should be done by bending forward with the hands on the lap. The head should not be rested on something raised, e.g. a pillow or desk.<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"#_ftn5\" name=\"_ftnref5\">[5]<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align:
