ASALAAMU Alaikum
\nCan you give details as to how to properly perform Tahajud Salaah?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As-sal\u0101mu \u2018alaykum wa-rahmatull\u0101hi wa-barak\u0101tuh.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Virtues of Tahajjud <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abu Hurairah Radhiallahu\nAnhu narrates that Rasulullah \ufdfa<\/strong>  <\/strong>said, “When one third of the night remains our\nRabb (Lord), Most High, Most Exalted, descends to the first sky and announces,\n“Who is there to beseech Me that I may answer his prayer and who is there\nto seek forgiveness that I may forgive him. Then He spreads out His hands (of\nkindness and mercy) and proclaims, “Who will grant a loan to the One who\nis neither a destitute or an oppressor.\u201d (Sahih Muslim) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bilal Radhiallahu Anhu narrates\nthat Nabi \ufdfa<\/strong> said, “Be vigilant in\nstanding up (in prayer) at night for it was the practice of the pious before\nyou. It is a means of gaining proximity to Allah Ta’ala, expiation for\ntransgressions and a barrier from sins (Tirmidhi).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Time for Tahajjud<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The time for Tahajjud begins\nafter one has performed Isha Salaah and extends up to Subh Saadiq (beginning\ntime of Fajr). Sleeping is not a condition for the\nvalidity of Tahajjud. However, it is better to sleep and thereafter to rise and\nperform the Tahajjud Salaah. It is more virtuous\nto perform Tahajjud in the latter portion of the night. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rasulullah \ufdfa<\/strong> said, \u201cThe closest Allah Ta\u2019ala\ngets to his servant is in the last portion of the night. If you possess the\nability to be from among those who remember Allah, then become one of them.\u201d\n(Tirmidhi)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Method of Tahajjud<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The method of performing Tahajjud Salah is the\nsame as performing any other Salah.  One may perform two Rakaats and\nmay increase as time permits.The number\nof rakaats performed by Nabi \ufdfa<\/strong> varied according to the prevailing circumstances. Although on\ncertain occasions sufficient time was available, Nabi \ufdfa<\/strong> would perform less rakaats reciting\nlengthy Qiraat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On different occasions and\naccording to the various narrations, The Prophet \ufdfa<\/strong> would perform four to twelve\nrakaats of Tahajjud in units of two or four.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After performing Tahajjud\nSalah, one should engage in Dua and ask for Allah Talaa\u2019s mercy and forgiveness\nand whatever needs one may have. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
