Message:
\nAs salaamu alaykum is it permissible for girls to post selfies on Instagram and\nSnapchat in which non mahrams can see ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As-sal\u0101mu \u2018alaykum wa-rahmatull\u0101hi wa-barak\u0101tuh. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is impermissible for a female to post pictures of\nherself online, even if Hijab, Niqaab is worn. The opposite gender may be\nattracted to such a picture, thereby causing sin to both the looker and the one\nwho posted it. One of the most vital aspects when using social media is to\ncontrol the gaze. The importance of abstaining from sins of the eyes is of\nextreme importance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All\u0101h Ta\u2019ala says in the Qur\u2019\u0101n:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Men and women have both been instructed separately in\nthe Qur\u2019\u0101n to control the gaze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore when it comes to\nsocial media, a lot more control and precaution is required to maintain Hay\u0101 (shame,\nmodesty). Posting pictures which will be viewed by non-Maharam is obviously in\ncontradiction of this. Hay\u0101 is an integral part of Imaan, Rasulullah \ufdfa<\/strong> has said, \u201cFaith has seventy odd branches and modesty is a\nbranch of faith\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is a well-known fact that\npictures on social networks are a means of connecting and promoting immoral\nrelationships especially with the opposite gender. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shari\u2019ah has closed all\ndoors to immorality. There are many verses of the Qur\u2019an and Ahadith that\nindicates this. There is a saying that \u2018butter next\nto fire will melt\u2019. Every person knows that they have their base desires and\nthe danger of attraction to the opposite sex. And what guarantee does one have\nthat Shaitaan would not cast evil in the hearts of the viewers?  Islam teaches that any act that leads to sin or becomes the stepping\nstone towards sin is also sinful and must be avoided. As such, females posting pictures of oneself or any\nfemale on social networks like Facebook, snapchat and Instagram is not\npermissible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
