{"id":2684,"date":"2019-12-02T21:26:41","date_gmt":"2019-12-03T01:26:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fatwa-tt.com\/?p=2684"},"modified":"2019-12-02T21:26:45","modified_gmt":"2019-12-03T01:26:45","slug":"accepting-gifts-during-the-christmas-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fatwa-tt.com\/index.php\/accepting-gifts-during-the-christmas-season\/","title":{"rendered":"Accepting gifts during the Christmas season."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Question:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Is it permissible to accept\ngifts, edibles which are given by customers and friends at the end of the year,\naround the time of Christmas?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Is it also permissible to\ngift items to customers at this time?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Answer:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>As-sal\u0101mu \u2018alaykum wa-rahmatull\u0101hi wa-barak\u0101tuh.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Muslim\u2019s belief in the Oneness of Allah Ta\u02bf\u0101l\u0101 and love for this complete and\nperfect Deen that we have been blessed with, requires a believer to completely\ndisassociate oneself from all practices related to other religions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is extremely detrimental\nto one\u2019s Imaan and absolutely forbidden to accept Christmas gifts etc. in one\u2019s\nharmony with the celebration of Christmas or as an expression of happiness and\nveneration upon the celebration of Christmas. The Fuqahaa (Jurists) have\nexpressly mentioned that revering a day that the disbelievers revere may take\none out of the fold of Islam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If however, such items are not given purely for the celebration of the occasion Christmas, and are given more as a token of goodwill at the end of the year, and one accepts such items without having any veneration of Christmas, then the gifts will be permissible to accept and utilize. Such gifting is regarded as social customs and is due to appreciation of the recipient, not expressions of reverence to the festive itself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, one should avoid\ngifting at this particular time.
