Question:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As salaamu alaikum wa\nrahmatullahi wa barakatuh. I am sometimes in the habit of watching Islamic\nlectures on YouTube and I also tend to share some lectures on WhatsApp.\nHowever, I wanted to know who are accepted scholars and muftis that I should\nlisten to, watch and share? I really don’t want to be misled and I don’t want\nto be responsible for misleading others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As-sal\u0101mu \u2018alaykum wa-rahmatull\u0101hi wa-barak\u0101tuh.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We commend you for your sensitivity in\nacquiring Deen.  It is essential for every\nMuslim to ensure their source of Islamicknowledge is sound and\nreliable, especially when gaining one\u2019s information from the internet where\ndeviant ideologies are widespread. The great Imam from the T\u0101bi\u2018\u012bn, Muhammad\nibn S\u012br\u012bn\u2013 may Allah Ta\u2019ala have mercy on him \u2013 said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0625\u0646 \u0647\u0630\u0627 \u0627\u0644\u0639\u0644\u0645 \u062f\u064a\u0646 \u0641\u0627\u0646\u0638\u0631\u0648\u0627 \u0639\u0645\u0646 \u062a\u0623\u062e\u0630\u0648\u0646 \u062f\u064a\u0646\u0643\u0645<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cVerily, this knowledge is\nreligion, so be cautious of whom you take your religion from.\u201d (Sah\u012bh Muslim<\/em>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In general, the person from\nwhom you take your religious knowledge should be someone who adheres to the\nSunnah of Nab\u012b (sallAll\u0101hu \u2018alayhi wasallam<\/em>) in creed and conduct, and\nto the path of the noble Sah\u0101bah (ridw\u0101null\u0101hi ta\u2018\u0101l\u0101 \u2018alayhim ajma\u2018\u012bn<\/em>).\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, the person from\nwhom you take religious knowledge should be of sound character and a person of\npiety. The great hadith scholar, Yahy\u0101 ibn Ma\u2018\u012bn (d. 233 H), said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0622\u0644\u0629 \u0627\u0644\u062d\u062f\u064a\u062b \u0627\u0644\u0635\u062f\u0642 \u0648\u0627\u0644\u0634\u0647\u0631\u0629 \u0648\u0627\u0644\u0637\u0644\u0628 \u0648\u062a\u0631\u0643 \u0627\u0644\u0628\u062f\u0639 \u0648\u0627\u062c\u062a\u0646\u0627\u0628 \u0627\u0644\u0643\u0628\u0627\u0626\u0631<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe apparatus of hadith\n(and religious knowledge) is integrity, recognition (amongst the scholars),\npursuit (of Deen\u012b<\/em> knowledge), abandonment of bid\u2018ahs and avoidance of\nmajor sins.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of the criteria we\nadvise you to look for in order to assess whether a particular person should be\nregarded as a trustworthy and accepted scholar from whom to take knowledge of Deen<\/em>\nare the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. He\ndoes not violate the laws of Shari\u2019ah. For example, he does not attend events\nin which there is intermingling of sexes, he does not cut his beard short, he\ndoes not listen to music, he does not keep pictures of living things etc.<\/li>
  2. He\ndresses in the Sunnah clothing.<\/li>
  3. He\nis a graduate of a reputable and accepted institute of Islamic studies.<\/li>
  4. He\nadheres to one of the four Madhabs (schools of thought) of fiqh, namely, the Madhab\nof Imam Abu Han\u012bfah, Imam Malik, Imam al-Sh\u0101fi\u2018\u012b and Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal.<\/li>
  5. He\nhas sound positions in \u2018Aq\u012bdah that are in accordance with what has been\nestablished by the scholars of Ahlus Sunnah, like Imam al-Tah\u0101w\u012b, Imam al-Nasaf\u012b\nand others.<\/li>
  6. He\nis not a person of bid\u2018ah. That is, he does not hold any baseless religious\nbeliefs, nor does he engage in any practical innovation in religion.<\/li>
  7. He\nis recognized and approved by the \u2018ulam\u0101\u2019 of Ahlus Sunnah wa l-Jam\u0101\u2018ah, and\nthose Ulama who are moderate and known for their taqw\u0101.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Some of the scholars you may\nlisten to are, Shaikh Zahir Mahmood (UK), Shaikh\nSulayman Moola, Shaikh Sulayman Kahtani (S.A.) Mufti Ismail Menk, Shaykh Abdul Majid Iltaf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
