{"id":2600,"date":"2019-02-14T20:36:14","date_gmt":"2019-02-15T00:36:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fatwa-tt.com\/?p=2600"},"modified":"2019-02-14T20:36:51","modified_gmt":"2019-02-15T00:36:51","slug":"the-correct-method-of-applying-the-shroud-for-a-deceased","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fatwa-tt.com\/index.php\/the-correct-method-of-applying-the-shroud-for-a-deceased\/","title":{"rendered":"The correct method of applying the shroud  for a deceased."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Question:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The correct method of\napplying the shroud (kafn) for a deceased, male and female.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Answer:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>As-sal\u0101mu \u2018alaykum wa-rahmatull\u0101hi wa-barak\u0101tuh.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Shrouding the deceased<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The shrouds may be any of\nany type or colour usually worn by the deceased but preferably of nice quality\nand white cotton. The shroud of both, men and women, should be perfumed with incense\nan odd number of times before the deceased is wrapped in them. It is preferable\nto burn incense at three times: when the soul is leaving the body, at the time\nof bathing the deceased, and when the deceased is shrouded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The hair and the beard of\nthe deceased should not be combed or braided and the nails should not be cut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is <em>Sunnah<\/em> that a\nman is shrouded in three clothes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Izar<\/em> \u2013 a loin cloth extending from the head to the feet\nlike the<em> Lifafah<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Qamis<\/em> \u2013 an upper garment extending from the shoulders to\nthe feet<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Lifafah<\/em> \u2013 (chador) a complete wrapper extending from the\nhead to the feet<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is also permissible to\nrestrict the man`s shroud to only the Izar and Lifafah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The deceased male should be\nput in the shrouds. Firstly, the Lifafah should be spread out and thereafter\nthe Izar should be unfolded on top of it. The deceased should be wrapped in a\nQamis without sleeves and put onto the Izar to be folded into it first from his\nleft and then from his right and then similarly into the Lifafah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The additional wrapper\nshould be wrapped around the deceased beginning with the left side, putting the\nshroud over him, then the right side. The shroud may be fastened with a knot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is <em>Sunnah<\/em> that a\nwoman should be shrouded in five cloths:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Izar<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Qamis<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Khimar \u2013 a scarf which\nshould be on top of the Qamis under the Lifafah<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A cloth with which her bosom\nis tied<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lifafah<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is also permissible to\nrestrict the woman`s shroud to only Izar, Khimar and Lifafah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The deceased female should\nbe put in the shrouds. Firstly, the Lifafah should be spread out, then the\ncloth to place on the bosom, then the Izar on top of it. The deceased should be\nwrapped in a Qamis and put onto the Izar to be folded into it, then the cloth\nand then into the Lifafah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The two hair plaits of a\nwoman should be placed on her chest on top of the Qam\u012bs. Then the woman should\nbe made to cover the head and face wear the Khimar below the Lifafah and on top\nof the Qamis. Then she should be wrapped in an Izar. The piece of cloth should\nthen be fastened on top of that behind the chest on the bossom and then the\nLifafah should be fastened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The child close to maturity\nwill be shrouded with the same clothes as an adult.
