The reason why it is\ncalled \u201cdry-cleaning\u201d is because the solvent used in the cleaning process is not water. Many types of fabric do not handle\nthe water very well and also there many types of stains in which water is not\nparticularly good at removing. The solvent which is used almost universally in\nthe dry-cleaning industry is called \u201cPerchloroethylene\u201d. Perchloroethylene is a\ncolourless, non-flammable liquid with a sweet, ether-like smell. This liquid is\nritually pure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus if a person dry cleans his impure clothes,\nit will be ritually clean after the process of dry cleaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Jurists have stated that physical visible impurities\nmay be removed by any pure liquid which has the potential of removing traces of\nimpurities from the affected area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If a piece of impure\ngarment is placed into a bucket of pure water or liquid, the entire bucket will\nbecome impure the moment the garments goes into it. If the garment is washed\nusing that contaminated water, the Jurists have stated that the garment will be\nritually pure if there are no signs of impurities present in the garment (in\nthe case of visible impurities) and if one is satisfied that the garment has\nbecome clean (in the case of invisible impurities). <a href=\"#_ftn1\">[1]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the process of dry-cleaning, impurities are\ntotally removed to the extent that no traces remain, even those impurities\nwhich its stains are difficult to remove. Secondly the solvent (which becomes impure) does not remain on the\ngarments thus there is no reason why the clothes will not become pure. There is\nhowever, a minute dry residue\nof \u2018Perchloroethylene\u2019 (the solvent used in dry-cleaning) that may remain in\nthe garments. This can be liken to the smoke of something impure or its dust\nwhich gathers and settles, which the Jurists regards as ritually pure.<a href=\"#_ftn2\">[2]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In conclusion, clothes that are placed in the dry\ncleaners will come out ritually clean as all impurities are removed, there is also\nsatisfaction that ritual purity has been attained and lastly, none of the\nimpure
