Reciting Durood (sending peace and salutations upon the Holy Prophet \ufdfa) is an act of great merit and rewards, whether it be in the beginning, ending or middle of one\u2019s supplication. Sending Durood upon the Prophet \ufdfa makes a person\u2019s supplication more readily accepted. In fact if a person\u2019s supplication comprises of only Durood, from the beginning to the end it will earn him great rewards and forgiveness.<\/p>\n
It was narrated that Ubayy ibn Ka\u2018b (may Allah be pleased with him) said:<\/p>\n
I said: O Messenger of Allah, I send a great deal of blessings upon you (Durood), how much of my supplication should be sending Durood upon you? He <\/em>\ufdfa<\/em> said: \u201cWhatever you wish.\u201d I said: One quarter? He said <\/em>\ufdfa<\/em>: \u201cWhatever you wish, and if you do more, that will be better for you.\u201d I said: One half? He <\/em>\ufdfa<\/em> said: \u201cWhatever you wish and if you do more, that will be better for you.\u201d I said: Two thirds? He said <\/em>\ufdfa<\/em>: \u201cWhatever you wish and if you do more, that will be better for you.\u201d I said: I will make the entire of my supplication for you. He <\/em>\ufdfa<\/em> said: \u201cThen your concerns will be taken care of and your sins will be forgiven.\u201d<\/em> {At-Tirmidhi}<\/p>\n The above Hadith shows the importance and benefits of send Durood upon the Prophet \ufdfa. It is better though if a person, together with sending abundance of Durood upon the Prophet \ufdfa supplicates to Allah \ufdfb for the fulfilment of his needs and concerns, worldly as well as the hereafter.<\/p>\n Regarding specifically to your question, it is recommended and encouraged to send Durood upon the Prophet \ufdfa at the beginning and ending of one\u2019s supplication as practiced by our learned scholars. He uses it whenever the need arises i.e. upon completing his journey, when thirsty and for Wudhu. If he doesn\u2019t have a need for it then he simply empties it. Rather place me (i.e. send durood upon me) at the beginning of your supplication as well as the end of your supplication<\/strong>. <\/em><\/p>\n Mulla Ali Qari (ra) in his commentary of Shifa<\/em> states that what the Prophet \ufdfa meant is that; do not delay in my remembrance rather place it before everything.[1]<\/strong><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n Ibn Atheer (ra) records this narration in his Jaami\u2019 al-Usool on the authority of Umar (ra). In this narration the Prophet \ufdfa said; remember me! (send durood upon me) in the beginning of your supplication, the middle of your supplication and the end of your supplication.[2]<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Ibn Atheer (ra) then explains the meaning of Hadith; a rider puts his belongings on his conveyance and hangs his water vessel at the extreme end due to its insignificance. Thereafter, the Prophet prohibits his followers from sending Durood upon him in a manner a rider does with his water vessel i.e. do not regard the Durood of the Prophet as insignificant or less important. Ibn Atheer (ra) then states that what is meant by the statement of the Prophet \ufdfa is; encouragement, not only to send Durood at the end of one\u2019s supplication but at the beginning and middle also.[3]<\/a><\/p>\n The experts of Hadith however, regard the above narrations as Dhaeef (weak).[4]<\/a> Nevertheless such narrations may be acted upon as the subject matter in reference is virtue
