At the outset, we wish to clarify that the field of Ift\u0101 is an incredibly delicate and complex field.[1]<\/a> It requires for one to have a detailed understanding of Shar\u1fd1\u2019ah to issue a Fatw\u0101. More importantly, one must study the field of Ift\u0101 under an expert teacher.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018All\u0101mah Ibn \u2018Abid\u1fd1n Ra\u1e25imahullah (d.1252 AH) writes:<\/span><\/p>\n

Translation:<\/strong><\/span>\u201cIndeed I saw in the Fat\u0101w\u0101 of \u2018All\u0101mah Ibn \u1e24ajar that he was asked regarding a person who prays and studies the books of Fiqh on his own and does not have a teacher, he then gives a Fatw\u0101 relying upon his study of books, is this permissible for him?<\/span>He (Ibn \u1e24ajar) replied \u201cit is not permissible for such a person to issue a Fatw\u0101 under any circumstance, for he is an ignorant layman who is unaware of what he is saying\u201d\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

How is a Fatw<\/strong>\u0101<\/strong> issued in accordance to the <\/strong>\u1e24<\/strong>anaf<\/strong>\u1fd1<\/strong> Madhab?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Before presenting the essential books of Fatw\u0101 according to the \u1e24anaf\u1fd1 Madhab, it is important to understand an underlying principle which outlines how a Fatw\u0101 is given according to the \u1e24anaf\u1fd1 Madhab.<\/span><\/p>\n

The fundamental rule for giving a Fatw\u0101 according to the \u1e24anaf\u1fd1 Madhab is[2]<\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBy default, Fatw\u0101 is given upon the rulings found in the books of \u1e92<\/em>\u0101<\/em>hir Al Riw<\/em>\u0101<\/em>yah<\/em>. However, if the \u1e24anaf\u1fd1 Fuqah\u0101 who were worthy of giving preference gave preference to a view that is contrary to what is found in the books of \u1e92<\/em>\u0101<\/em>hir Al Riw<\/em>\u0101<\/em>yah<\/em>, then Fatw\u0101 shall be given upon the view that the \u1e24anaf\u1fd1 Fuqah\u0101 who were worthy of giving preference have given preference to and not the view found in the books of \u1e92<\/em>\u0101<\/em>hir Al Riw<\/em>\u0101<\/em>yah<\/em>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Important Books Required for Issuing a Fatw<\/strong>\u0101<\/strong> According to the <\/strong>\u1e24<\/strong>anaf<\/strong>\u1fd1<\/strong> Madhab<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

After understanding the fundamental rule mentioned above, it is understood that the important books for Fatw\u0101 according to the \u1e24anaf\u1fd1 Madhab are of four types:<\/span><\/p>\n

1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The books of \u1e92<\/em>\u0101<\/em>hir Al Riw<\/em>\u0101<\/em>yah<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The books written by the \u1e24anaf\u1fd1 Madhab who were worthy of giving preference<\/span><\/p>\n

3)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The books of Al Mut\u016bn Al Mu\u2019tabarah<\/em> (The Reliable Texts)<\/span><\/p>\n

4)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The books written by the later scholars<\/span><\/p>\n

We shall briefly list these 4 types of books.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Books of <\/strong>\u1e92<\/em><\/strong>\u0101<\/em><\/strong>hir Al Riw<\/em><\/strong>\u0101<\/em><\/strong>yah<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The books of \u1e92<\/em>\u0101<\/em>hir Al Riw<\/em>\u0101<\/em>yah<\/em> are the books written by Im\u0101m Mu\u1e25ammad (d.189 AH) with the purpose of presenting the rulings of the \u1e24anaf\u1fd1 Madhab. In these books, Im\u0101m Mu\u1e25ammad (d.189 AH) records the view of Im\u0101m Ab\u016b \u1e24an\u1fd1fah (d.150 AH), Im\u0101m Ab\u016b Y\u016bsuf (d.182 AH), and his personal view.<\/span><\/p>\n

The \u1e92<\/em>\u0101<\/em>hir Al Riw<\/em>\u0101<\/em>yah<\/em> are five books in total[3]<\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n
