Does vomiting or swallowing ones vomit unintentionally break the fast?<\/span><\/p>\n

Answer:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

If a person vomits unintentionally his fast would not<\/strong> be broken irrespective of the quantity i.e. whether it amounts to a mouthful or more.<\/span><\/p>\n

If however he vomits intentionally, the fast would only be broken if the vomit amounts to a mouthful or more, anything less than a mouthful would not nullify the fast.<\/span><\/p>\n

NB<\/strong>: If it is difficult to suppress the vomit in the mouth, then it is regarded as mouthful.<\/span><\/p>\n

NB:<\/strong> If a person deliberately vomits on different occasions in one particular Majlis (physical location) and on each of these occasions the amount of vomit amounts to less than a mouthful however, if the total amount vomited equals to, or exceeds a mouthful then the fast would be broken.<\/span><\/p>\n

If the vomit re-enters the throat unintentionally, then the fast would not be broken irrespective of the quantity vomited and irrespective of whether the vomit came out intentionally or not.[1]<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

However, if the vomit re-entered the throat due to the deliberate action of the individual then the fast would be broken irrespective of whether the person vomited intentionally or not and regardless of the amount vomited.[2]<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

There are twenty four different scenarios in which the Masaail of vomiting may exist, none of them would nullify the fast except for two viz, it returns to the mouth deliberately or it is deliberately vomited amounting or exceeding a mouthful.[3]<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

In conclusion the fast would only be nullified if two factors exist;<\/span><\/p>\n

(i) Deliberately vomiting a mouthful<\/span><\/p>\n

(ii) Deliberately swallowing ones vomit<\/span><\/p>\n

If however the vomit is little and it is difficult to expel it, as in the case of a person performing Salah then the fast would not be broken if it is swallowed.<\/span><\/p>\n

NB<\/strong>: If the fast was nullified because of vomiting then only<\/strong> Qadha would be necessary.<\/span><\/p>\n
