Wearing a mask in Salaah.

fatwa-tt April 9, 2020

Question:

Is it permissible to pray salaah with a medical (N95 type) mask on, due to the current pandemic?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In general, it is Makrooh (disliked) to perform Salaah with the mouth and nose covered[1]. Therefore without a need, one should avoid praying with a mask on.

However due to the current pandemic, if one is preforming Salaah in congregation and wears a mask for precautionary measures, it will be allowed.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
