Question:

Inquring about the permissibility of permanent tattoos in islam and any hadith associated with it.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Tattoos are strictly forbidden in Islaam. Nabi ﷺ has cursed the person who gets a tattoo and those who make the tattoo:

Ibn `Umar (Radhiallahu Anhu) relates, “The Prophet (ﷺ) has cursed the one who tattoos (themself or someone else) and the one who gets tattooed”” (This prohibition is mentioned in many Ahadith, narrated in Bukhari, Muslim, Tirmidhi, Nasa’i.]

This ruling applies to both males and females. One must also abstain from temporary tattoos, due to its resemblance with Haraam.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
