Is temporary contraception allowed?

Question:

Asalamu aliykum

Alhamdulillah  allah has bless us with two kids. Both our kids has to go though Caesarean section. Alhamdulillah once again my wife is bless with another kid.  As both our kids came out with Caesarean chances so thrid kid taking out of C section is innevitable. So my wife has done 3 Caesarean. In these part of world where we live they dont  encourage for 4th C section. so my question is is it allowed to do temporary contraception after birth.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Temporary (reversible) contraception is permissible in your wife’s situation with her permission.[1]

[1] وَيُكْرَهُ لِلزَّوْجِ أَنْ يَعْزِلَ عَنْ امْرَأَتِهِ الْحُرَّةِ بِغَيْرِ رِضَاهَا؛ لِأَنَّ الْوَطْءَ عَنْ إنْزَالٍ سَبَبٌ لِحُصُولِ الْوَلَدِ، وَلَهَا فِي الْوَلَدِ حَقٌّ، وَبِالْعَزْلِ يَفُوتُ الْوَلَدُ، فَكَأَنَّهُ سَبَبًا لِفَوَاتِ حَقِّهَا، وَإِنْ كَانَ الْعَزْلُ بِرِضَاهَا لَا يُكْرَهُ؛ لِأَنَّهَا رَضِيَتْ بِفَوَاتِ حَقِّهَا (ج 2 ص 334 دار الكتب العلمية)

 

عَنْ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ: «كُنَّا نَعْزِلُ عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالقُرْآنُ يَنْزِلُ»البخاري رقم الحديث 5209)
