Discharge of fluid during fasting.

fatwa-tt May 9, 2023

Question:

Message:

A woman got excited by her hand and stopped midway, during fasting.

Some vaginal discharge was present.

▪️How to determine the nature of this fluid: whether madhi or mani?

▪️What is the state of her fast?

▪️What steps to be taken for ghusl while fasting?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

– Mani-Sperm: A white thick fluid which emits at the time of ejaculation.

–  Madhi-Pre-coital fluid: A clear thin fluid which emits due to sexual arousement.

The emission of Mani will break one’s fast and necessitate Qadha (1 make up fast), while Madhi will not. If one is not certain of the nature of the discharge, fast should be repeated as a precaution.

One must abstain from such actions while fasting. Ghusl will be made as usual, except that one will gargle and inhale the water into the nostrils lightly.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best.
