Cancelling an order due to price drop.

fatwa-tt January 10, 2022

Question:

Assalaamu Alaikum,
1.If an online store allows its customers to cancel multiple orders without charging any cancellation fees, in cases where there is a drop in price of a product, will it be considered as cheating even though I mention to them that the reason for cancellation is the “price drop”?
2. If the price drops further for the second time, can the order be cancelled again by giving them the same reason for cancellation?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Generally, online stores allow costumers to cancel their order without any cancellation fee before the order is shipped, as there have not been any costs incurred on the company.

Therefore in the situation explained in the query, it will be permissible to cancel the orders even due to a drop in price, as the company’s policy allows such cancellations.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
