Can i do wudhu with the water from the swimming pool?

fatwa-tt May 18, 2022

Question:

Assalaamu alaykum

I would like to ask, can i do wudhu with the water from the swimming pool which has a motor fitted to refill the water from the swimming pool using the same water from the pool? when the situation is that, there is no running water in the house. The swimming pool is roughly 4 mtrs by 6 meters roughly. Does it matter if chlorine is present in the water or not?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

A pond, tank, etc. which has an area of approximately five by five meters (20 sq m or 5283gls) or more is considered to be flowing water.  Flowing water remains pure even if Najaasah falls into it. It will become impure if so much Najaasah fell into it that one of the three qualities has changed. The three qualities are; (a) smell, (b) taste, and (c) color.

Stagnant water that does not flow (e.g. a pool or tank), or water which is in an area less than five by five meters. Even a little Najaasah will render stagnant water impure.

The pool as mentioned will be considered as flowing water and wudhu is permitted. Chlorine will not affect to permissibility of Wudhu.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
