Are Sheikh Imran Hosein’s teachings acceptable?

fatwa-tt August 19, 2021

Question:

Assalamualaikum wbt
I would like to ask about Sheikh Imran Hosein who is a scholar in your country. I would like to know about his teachings either acceptable or not. I got to know he’s spreading his thoughts and teachings to other countries including among Malaysian. As I read the articles here his teachings haven’t been acknowledged by your country due to conflicts of opinion and misleading interpretations. Can I get more details about him? Does he really a ‘Sheikh’?
Thank you so much
Jazakumullah Khaira

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Your query is about Skeikh Imran Hosein’s teachings and his qualifications. We are unaware of the details of his qualifications as a Sheikh and such would not be relevant.

As far as his teachings and views, we uphold our view as stated previously. We reiterate that our beautiful religion is based on the Quraan which is understood through authentic interpretations, and the Ahadith (sayings) of The Prophet ﷺ, and not any individual ‘prophecies’ or personal interpretations. Such ‘prophecies’ hold no significance in Deen, and it does not behove a Muslim to go around spreading anxiety and promoting ideas regarding future events based on undetermined and conjectural theories that stem from misinterpreting The Quran and Ahādīth.

While some of the individual’s interpretations and assumptions may seem to manifest, many are in disagreement with the authentic teachings of Quraan and the Sunnah, and therefore one should abstain from indulging in such ideologies. The Prophet ﷺ reminds us it is not permissible to interpret the Qur’aan according to one’s understanding. This is clearly understood from the following Ahadith. Nabi ﷺ has said:

مَنْ قَالَ فِي القُرْآنِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنَ النَّارِ

Translation: “Whoever interprets the Qur’an without knowledge, then let him make the Fire of hell his abode.”  [Tirmidhi]

In another narration Nabi ﷺ has mentioned:

مَنْ قَالَ فِي القُرْآنِ بِرَأْيِهِ فَأَصَابَ فَقَدْ أَخْطَأ

Translation: “Whoever renders tafseer from his own intelligence, then even if he reaches the correct meaning, he will still be considered to have erred.” [Tirmidhi]

In current times of trials and difficulties, when the Ummah faces turmoil, and our Imān faces danger, we follow the ultimate teachings of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam by turning to Allah Ta’ala in Salah, Dua, seeking His help and preparation for the Hereafter.

A Bedouin asked the Prophet (Sallallaahu ‘Alahi Wa Sallam) about the Hour (Qiyamah).   He (Sallallaahu ‘Alahi Wa Sallam) said, “It will surely come to pass. What have you prepared for it?” (Bukhari)

Meaning, you should rather be more concerned in preparing yourself for The Qiyamah.
